"Education is not the learning of facts, it's rather the training of the mind to think."

                   -Albert Einstein

I believe that the minute we associate education with test scores, that the zest for learning becomes more about that and not what actually about education. We have to think about where our view of education stems from-does it stem from looking at students as test scores or does it stem from what is really important--the student and their learning itself? One cannot have a proper view of what education is if students and the classroom experience are all about testing and scores. When it becomes about testing and scores, the school does not care about the learning, but just a high score. They are more than that. They are not that. Students can show us their understanding and comphrension in different ways. So, we must be careful how we rightfully use the term "education". I believe that education needs to be constantly challenged and evaluated. We cannot just stand still and accept things the way they are because they have been that way for a while. As an honor to our changing students and the change of culture, we cannot just continue to do things because it has been a thing that has always been done. We need to step back and reflect on the practices that are taking place, for what is important for the student. We need to be fighting for the rights of our students when it comes to that. Education should no longer be associated with just worksheets and the teacher lecturing in front of the room. Let's change the definition. Education is not a standardized test or a test score.

"The most dangerous phrase in language is 'we've always done it this way.'"

                                                                                                                            -Rear Admiral Grace

I believe that education is collaborative. Education should not have everyone pitted against each other, but rather collaborative. This is not to say that everything is collaborative, but that there is a great benefit in students working together--bouncing ideas off of each other and teaching each other as well. There is a great amount of learning that can happen with collaboration.

I believe that education is too important for our students to not have meaningful and engaging experiences. The amount of time that students spend in school and in a classroom is so important. Students are given a large chunk of a day with us--why would we waste that time? We should be providing them engaging experiences and they should feel a part of the classroom. It is a waste of time for students to just follow the motions and follow the same routine. Also, the word "education" does not just have to be academic--it can also be included in the education of just how the world works, or how to be a good person. Education has such a potential for furthering the lives of students--we should be working to help that potential by the educational experience we provide. I believe that education has the ability to inspire children to act outside of the classroom. The quality and type of education that a student receives can impact either direction that this goes. If a student does not feel inspired or has learned or gained something in their education, they aren't going to do much about it outside of your classroom. If we create a culture in the classroom that is engaging, and challenging, and thought-provoking, we can start a catalyst for learning that takes place for students well outside of our classroom. The experiences, the engagements, and learning that happens in education can all fuel that.

I believe that education is a hands-on and real experience. I believe that education is conversational and relational. The word "education" does not just have to be academic--it can also be included in the education of just how the world works, or how to be a good person. With that, I believe that the more hands-on and real experiences that students have, the more engaged they will be with the learning and content. Their education is furthered and grows when they see the connection up close. Their education is furthered when they see how this can apply to them in real life. Too often we teach things to students that they will never remember, because it never connected to them.
